Since assuming the office of Lafourche Parish Sheriff, Sheriff Craig Webre has honored employees and civilians for commendable work, distinguished service, and saving lives through the Lafourche Pride Awards. These awards include: those for the distinguished service award, lifesaving award, medal of honor, medal of valor, purple heart, and the sheriff’s star . This event was held Saturday, September 15 at the Nicholls State University Ballroom.
This year I had the honor of being one of the recipients of the distinguished service award. I have worked with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff Office since I was a child and because of my work with them I have been blessed with some incredible life opportunities. The award I was presented with was to commemorate the last 4 years of my career with them. It recognizes my work with the Explorer program, where I am now the residing captain. It also recognizes my work through the Region 6 FEMA youth preparedness council, where I sit as the chair of the group. In addition to my work with the National FEMA youth preparedness council, where I am currently 1 of 17 students nationwide chosen to represent their regions.
The last award presented that night was the one that everyone spends the year anticipating, the sheriff’s star. The sheriff’s star is given to an officer who spends their law enforcement career and life making the world a better place for all that reside in it. This year the recipient of this award was no other than, Lieutenant Valerie Martinez-Jordan(Right to Left: Sheriff Craig Webre, her daughter, Lieutenant Martinez-Jordan, and her husband). Over the course of her career she has dedicated her life to the service of domestic violence victims. She even went to the governor’s office and assisted in creating a new law that forces individuals convicted of domestic violence to surrender their weapons. Lieutenant Martinez-Jordan has a quiet, loving soul and she continues to make the world better one step at a time with the light that she radiates into this bleak world. Her life has always been dedicated to the betterment of others and the recognition she received was well-deserved.
